Cody Boston
Through my experience working in public media, I’ve developed a passion for telling impactful stories.
Whether it be through topics of health, community service, workforce development or local elections, I strive to be intentional in working with organizations that create direct change in their community.
My career in journalism led me to accept a position at Kansas City PBS as Producer/Director/Editor for a monthly news and issues-based series called Flatland in Focus. Through this opportunity, I led a team of journalists on a broad array of issues affecting the Kansas City community. From homelessness and reproductive rights, to rising utility costs and food insecurity, Flatland in Focus gave me direct experience building out a program with purpose and intention to inform the public.
My interest in journalism is paralleled only by my love of music. During my time at my college radio station KJHK, I fell in love with local music and its ability to bring people together. I was lucky enough to direct and produce an award winning live music video series at KJHK, 90.9 The Bridge, and in my own independent series, Flew the Coop Sessions.
As Flew the Coop Sessions grew into a valuable community asset in the local music scene, we made the decision to incorporate as a 501c3 non-profit organization. As founder and executive director of Flew the Coop Sessions, I take great joy in continuing to build the series by pursuing grant opportunities, thinking of creative ways to work with community partners and, of course, directing our live sessions. Collaborating with artists for live sessions and music videos remains one of my favorite kinds of projects to pursue.
